General Questions

What are your opening hours?

We are open Monday-Friday 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM and Saturday-Sunday 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Last entry is one hour before closing. We are closed on major public holidays including Christmas Day, St. Stephen's Day, and New Year's Day.

Do I need to book in advance?

General admission does not require advance booking, though we recommend it during peak periods. Guided tours, educational programs, and group visits require advance booking: 2 weeks for standard guided tours, 4 weeks for school groups, and 2 weeks for private tours.

How long does a typical visit take?

Most visitors spend 2-3 hours exploring our permanent galleries. Guided tours last approximately 90 minutes. If you plan to attend special programs or spend time in our café, allow 3-4 hours for your visit.

Is the museum accessible for wheelchair users?

Yes, our facility is fully accessible with step-free access, elevators to all floors, accessible restrooms, and designated seating areas. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis at no charge (deposit required). Please contact us in advance if you require specific accommodations.

Can I take photographs?

Personal photography without flash is permitted in permanent galleries for non-commercial use. Photography may be restricted in special exhibitions where indicated by signage. Commercial photography requires advance written permission.

Are there discounts available?

Yes, we offer discounts for students, seniors, children, families, and groups. We also provide free admission on the first Sunday of each month, free admission for teachers and veterans, and accessibility passes for visitors with disabilities. See our pricing page for details.

Is there a café or restaurant?

Yes, our café offers light refreshments, sandwiches, salads, pastries, and beverages. The café is open during museum hours and accessible without museum admission.

Can I bring children?

Absolutely! We welcome families and offer children's activity booklets, family programs, and age-appropriate tours. Children under 6 receive free admission but must be supervised by adults at all times. Strollers are permitted in galleries.

What languages are supported?

Gallery labels are in English and Irish. Audio guides are available in English, Irish, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and Mandarin Chinese. Guided tours are primarily in English but can be arranged in other languages with advance notice.

How do I get there by public transport?

The nearest Luas stop is St. Stephen's Green on the Green Line (5-minute walk). Multiple Dublin Bus routes serve the area including 11, 14, 15, 44, 46A, and 140. DART users can walk from Pearse Station (15 minutes) or Tara Street Station (20 minutes). See our service area page for more details.

What is your cancellation policy?

General admission tickets are non-refundable but may be used on any future date within one year. Guided tours receive full refund if cancelled 48 hours in advance, 50% refund for 24-48 hours, and no refund within 24 hours. Workshop cancellations receive full refund one week in advance, 50% refund 48 hours to one week in advance, and no refund within 48 hours.

Do you offer school programs?

Yes, we offer comprehensive school programs for primary and secondary students. Programs are tailored to specific age groups and curriculum requirements and include pre-visit materials, guided tours with hands-on activities, and post-visit resources.
